The Four Seasons - Arrested Beauty

A four piece study on the struggles of women from different backgrounds. Each season correlates with a flower native to a part of the world where the female demographic has a story to share.

Prima signifies the struggles of women in El Salvador who have lost their lives, and those in fear of losing their lives, with the prevailing increase of femicides.

Somer signifies the struggle of women in South Africa who are robbed of the rights to their own body by rape and social shaming.

Kharif signifies the struggle of women in Iran whose hands are enslaved as tools to provide for an economy that does not justly value them.

Zimovy signifies the struggle of women in Russia who are entrapped by systems that limit their choices. Therefore resulting in suicide, radicalism or life in Mordovia.

Each piece is to honor the women, to emphasize the beauty and strength. Anchored to remind ourselves of our sisters who are hungry and hurt but continue persevere, when we do not feel strong in ourselves. The hope is to awaken the desire to see the world from the outside - in, and to not forget our power as we continue to fight for those we’ve lost, those that are here and our daughters to come.
